1.7M Ford, Lincoln Vehicle Under NHTSA Investigation For Possible Brake Problem

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is currently conducting an investigation into reported front brake damage on the Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans. The investigation follows reports of a rupture and leaking of the front brake line on the Ford sedan that could cause the braking system to fail. There have been 50 complaints so far and Ford and NHTSA are working together to find a solution.

The NHTSA investigation follows a series of 50 complaints that referred to problems with front brake lines from 2013 to 2018 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans. According to complaints, the front brake lines on this sedan are cracked or leaking fluid with little warning. A brake fluid leak means that the braking system is not operating properly which causes a number of safety issues.

There are currently no recalls applicable for the 2013 to 2018 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans due to braking issues. NHTSA is working on an investigation with Ford to gather more information about the situation before a solution is put in place.

Ford may issue a voluntary recall if a full recall is not required by NHTSA after the conclusion of the investigation. For a simple part that can have serious consequences, it makes sense to offer a solution to customers who own the 2013 to 2018 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans.

The recall may include replacing the front brake line with a braking system bleed to ensure there are no air bubbles in the braking system. The brake fluid must not have air bubbles or the system will not operate properly and may cause inconsistent stopping. This simple fix will fix any issues found during the NHTSA investigation.

The 2013 to 2018 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans were Ford’s last sedans before the brand moved to SUVs and trucks only for their model lineup. This final sedan will be supported by Ford to ensure owners are cared for following the NHTSA investigation.
