Hennessey Performance is close to setting an August 9 timeframe for the roofless debut of the Venom F5. Back in April, the Texas-based store announced the global premiere of the F5 Roadster would take place today, followed by a public debut at The Quail during Monterey Car Week. Now it looks like the premiere and public presentation will be one and the same, though we have a good teaser image to hold us back. Maybe that was Hennessey’s plan all along.
Whatever it is, it’s cool. After adjusting a few light levels in the teaser image, we get a pretty good idea of what to expect when the F5 Roadster takes the spotlight. Not surprisingly, it looks like a normal version with a raised roof. Of course, there really is there isn’t any The usual stuff about the Venom F5 – let’s not forget, it packs a twin-turbocharged 6.6-liter V8 that produces 1,817 horsepower and all of it is channeled to the rear wheels. Hennessey projects the F5 will exceed 300 mph, and while we haven’t seen it hit that benchmark yet, it’s very close.
Hennessey has confirmed the Venom F5 Roadster will pack the same engine with the same productive output. Managing such a power is a daunting task in something with roof, so it will be interesting to see what changes are made to the Roadster’s carbon fiber monocoque chassis. Typically, dismantling the roof lowers the structural rigidity of the vehicle, which then requires reinforcement to re-strengthen it, adding weight in the process. But then again, the F5 is no ordinary machine.
It will also be interesting to see if the Roadster comes with an estimated top speed of 300 mph. Hennessey’s teaser promises a “wind-in-your-hair-thrill” but if we’re being honest, that kind of speed in the open cockpit might just be hair loss. If so, we expect Hennessey to at least have the foresight to make it part of the F5 Roadster’s marketing campaign.
Our questions will be answered on August 19, with the Roadster’s official debut at The Quail. Meanwhile, dive into more supercar content with Motor1.com the editors discuss the best cars of 2022 so far in a special episode Chatting About Carsavailable below.
