The new Honda pilot will debut later this year for 2023, and the automaker will again offer it in the rugged TrailSport trim. A new teaser gives a further look at the redesigned SUV, which Honda claims will be the “toughest and most capable” SUV ever.
The teaser image doesn’t reveal anything. The TrailSport pilot is too small in the frame to pick out any of the model-defining details. However, previous spy shots have previewed the SUV’s redesign, which looks more aggressive than the current SUV style. The 2023 pilot will have an upright front end with the thin headlights mounted high and the vertical intakes pushed into the lower corners.

If the Honda Pilot TrailSport 2023 is similar to the 2022 model, the SUV could receive 18-inch alloy wheels, a leather interior, other off-road touches, and a unique badge. All-wheel drive shall be standard. Honda is launching the Passport TrailSport for 2022, delivering new smaller crossover wheels, other visual upgrades, and a wider track.
While the Pilot will receive a substantial redesign inside and out, the powertrain under the sheet metal hasn’t changed. Honda currently uses a 3.5-liter V6 in its SUV, which produces 280 horsepower (205 kilowatts) and is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Honda might massage the engine to make it more efficient or upgrade to a 10-speed gearbox, but that’s speculation. The next-generation model could also come with a plug-in hybrid powertrain option. Rumors continue to suggest that the next-generation Pilot will ride on the same platform that underpins the current Acura MDX. We haven’t seen the interior yet, but it should be packed with technology and features.
Honda confirmed earlier this year that the new Pilot would debut in 2022, but the company has yet to announce an official debut date. We expect the new Pilot to go on sale early next year, and that off-road-oriented trims like the TrailSport will help attract buyers as the SUV and crossover craze continues with consumers.
