based in Florida ECD Automotive Design quite familiar with the classic Land Rover Defender. We’ve seen all kinds of custom builds featuring an old-school off-roader with modern features and the power of a prolific V8. This time, however, you won’t find a V8 engine under the hood. In fact, you will not find every machine, because this sucker is electric.
Actually, there are two interesting electric Defenders here but both have the same running gear under the skin. In the internal combustion chamber and all its ancillary equipment such as the fuel tank and exhaust system, you’ll find a 100kWh battery pack and a Tesla electric motor producing 450 horsepower. That power still goes to all four wheels – after all, this is a Land Rover Defender – and both have upgraded air suspension with BF Goodrich all-terrain tires. Accelerator pins and 60 mph arrive in five seconds, but a gentler application of power provides a claimed range of 220 miles.
Project Britton (shown in the photo gallery above) uses built-in brakes and axles and sports a Cool Khaki Gray exterior color that actually gives off a blue hue. The interior is upholstered in leather and fabric in black and cream tones, not to mention all kinds of wood trim including Teak in the cargo area for the floor and rear seats.
The Project Morpheus (not pictured) is a bit more rugged with improved axles and a limited-slip differential. It doesn’t have the wood trim from Project Britton, but you’ll still find leather and stereo banging inside, along with seating for six. Roof racks, grille guards and external lights complete the Defender’s classic look.
