Launched more than two years ago, the Bentley Bacalar is “the ultimate expression of two-seater open space luxury.” Designed by Mulliner, the world’s oldest coachbuilder, this model marks the studio’s return to coachbuilding. Mulliner is now nearing the completion of Bacalar’s production, which should allow the division to focus on new projects, which will be revealed soon.
Mulliner will assemble a total of 12 cars, each in a unique color designed by its customers. Eight cars have already been delivered to their new owners and the last four examples are currently in the final stages of assembly at the Mulliner workshop in Crewe. Each car took about six months to complete, from mechanical production to “the long and highly detailed process of making each Bacalar exactly the way the owner wanted it.”

To highlight the countless customization options, Bentley features the Bacalar in several different colors, not seen on previous open-top grand tourers. The automaker also reminded us that Bacalar attended this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it was handed over to its new owners by Adrian Hallmark, Bentley Chairman and CEO. This particular car is finished in Sunset Orange with customized 22-inch wheels.
“Designing Bacalar is an exercise of the imagination, with the materials, colors and finishes of nearly every interior and exterior surface bespoke,” Maria Mulder, Head of Color, Materials and Finishes at Bentley, comments. “Regardless of your personal style, whether it’s to define your Bacalar with a bold Yellow Flame exterior paint synthesized with rice husk ash, or a more subtle Moss Green reflecting Bentley’s heritage, developing your own artisan piping, or co-creating a mix cloth, Bacalar has provided all these opportunities.”
The engine under the hood deserves the same attention and Bentley built the 6.0-liter W12 by hand. In this latest evolution, the plant produces 650 horsepower (485 kilowatts) and 667 pound-feet (900 Newton-meters) of torque. Compared to the first Bentley W12 in 2003, the latest version introduced in the Bentayga SUV in 2016, has an increase in power of up to 27 percent, torque of 38 percent and emission reductions of up to 28 percent.
