Admit it – you’ve been waiting for this drag race ever since the new Acura Integra debuted earlier this year, if for no other reason than to see and hear the classic ITR in action. On that front, the latest video from automotive superstar Jason Cammisa on Hagerty not disappointed. Nor does it stop at new versus old battles. And when you think it’s a done deal, the racing action gets really crazy.
It all started with a young Integra gun racing against his father. Actually, it’s more like a nephew confronting a mad uncle, who still stands tall and has a poster of Nirvana in the living room. The Type R was the epitome of the previous generation Integra’s performance, while the new ‘Teg, well, new. It doesn’t have a chance to develop beyond the trim level’s opening salvo, so in that respect, it’s hard to call this a fair fight.

However, the two cars fit perfectly on paper. As a reminder, the new Integra borrows a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder from the Honda Civic Si, pumping out 200 horsepower versus 195 hp in the high-revving Type R. Both shift gears with three pedals and a stick, and while the new Acura is slightly heavier than the uncle R, it also has a significant torque advantage. And you know, the real race is close to winning the new Integra by about a car’s distance. Considering it’s not a top-dog performance model, it’s a decent show.
That’s when modern competition arrived… and that wasn’t good for Acura.
With 276 hp and sticky summer tires, the Hyundai Elantra N is completely different universe of Integral. The 228-hp Volkswagen Jetta GLI was closer, but at the end of the quarter-mile drag race, both cars well in front of Acura. Admittedly, this competition pits a special performance model against a standard vehicle. But with the Acura’s price tag being the higher of the two sports sedans, it’s undeniably lacking in athleticism.
To really bring it to life for you, Cammisa is setting up one last drag race against something that Integra buyers are clearly not aiming for. The Ford Bronco Raptor has more than double the power of the Acura, but also carries three times the mass. With numbers, the jump-happy SUV should be faster on the pavement. But can the off-roader win against the Integra while actually racing on the road? This is the culmination of a really cool video, and we won’t spoil the ending for you.
