The Ford Raptor is a popular pickup which makes it a big target for thieves. Last night, would-be muggers stole several Raptors from a Ford stockpile near the Dearborn-Detroit border. Michigan State Police chased one of the vehicles, and officers managed to make several arrests and found the truck along with a stolen Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.
Police chased the Raptor into the neighborhood where they found an abandoned truck near a house, according to Detroit News. Officers then stopped the car as it was leaving the house, finding a man in the vehicle wearing a ski mask. The caller who reported the stolen vehicle to police around 9pm on Wednesday noted that the thieves were wearing ski masks.
Police arrested three people in connection with the theft of the vehicle. Not only finding the Raptor, officers also found three other vehicles that were reported stolen, several sets of keys, and stolen firearms. Police chased the stolen vehicle on the ground, but Michigan State Police also requested a helicopter to help track the vehicle, which led officers on the ground to the abandoned truck.

This isn’t the first time a thief has swiped a Ford Raptor. Last month, police found 13 Raptors stolen from Ford’s Dearborn Truck Factory. The trucks were stolen from storage on June 17, and police recovered them from several locations on June 22. However, the police found them in a state of disassembly.
Car thefts are on the rise, and several notable ones have occurred in the past year. In December, thieves took four GT500s of which one broke through a security gate, allowing the thief to take the other three. Police found two at the time, but the others were still missing. In May, five Chevrolet Camaros were stolen from GM’s Lansing Grand River plant, leading police to a wild chase that resulted in nine arrests.
Cars are a hot commodity, making them a prime target for thieves looking to dismantle vehicles to sell parts. Police will be looking for another stolen Ford truck. It’s unclear how many trucks the thieves could have stolen.
