Alfa Romeo Supercar To Be Previewed In 2023 With Twin-Turbo V6: Report

[ad_1]

In June 2018, Alfa Romeo revealed a product roadmap listing the GTV and 8C models slated for release in 2022. However, an updated version of the image from FCA Q3 2019 results unfortunately doesn’t include both revivals anymore. To the disappointment of fans, plans for the Giulia Coupe and mid-engined supercar were scrapped. However, a new report claims there may still be an attractive ICE-powered Alfa before the brand goes electric.

Car Magazine has good authority Alfa Romeo will present a “design study” for a fully fledged supercar early next year. Provided there is enough interest, a low-volume production car will be launched in the middle of this decade. At the heart of the performance engine is expected to be a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 from the Giulia and a Quadrifoglio-spec Stelvio that churns out 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet (600 Newton-meters) of torque.

Let’s not forget that Alfa Romeo sold the Giulia GTA/GTAm with a six-cylinder engine that produces 533 hp while maintaining the same amount of torque. The report does not exclude the possibility of a hybrid powertrain with Formula 1 knowledge relying on ties to Sauber. A carbon fiber monocoque chassis like the supposedly reborn 8C is a distinct possibility, also with potential connections to Sauber and/or sister brand Maserati with its MC20.

Take these details with a pinch of salt, but it would be sad not to have a proper delivery for the V6 engine before the Alfa Romeo went electric. According to documents released a year ago by parent company Stellantis, the well-known Italian brand will become a pure electric brand in Europe, North America and China expanded by 2027. The next-generation Giulia has been announced as an EV, but it may not be a traditional sedan anymore.

Stellantis electrification roadmap

Alfa Romeo had no problem selling all 500 examples of the Giulia GTA/GTAm even though they were very expensive, going up to €180,000 in the latter case. Final ICE will be an instant collectible, especially in the form of a desired supercar. Hopefully, there’s some truth in all of this and we’ll get our last hurray of the petrol Alfa before it all goes electric.
