A new batch of spy photos captures the Mercedes-Benz CLE-Class Coupe for the first time. The car continues to wear full-body camouflage wrap, but there is less cladding to hide the design, and the car appears to be sporting its production headlights. The CLE class will be new to Mercedes as the company tightens its product portfolio in certain areas.
The new CLE Coupe will use Mercedes’ MRA-2 platform, which underpins the new C-Class. That shared architecture likely means the new CLE will also borrow from the C-Class lineup of powertrains. Rumors suggest a full-fat AMG variant arriving late next year, sporting an electric 2.0-liter engine from the C63. Mercedes will also have to fill the CLE portfolio with the AMG CLE 43 and CLE 53 models.

While the new CLE will share the base with the C-Class, recent spy shots reveal the model receiving a unique front fascia. The previous spy shot had to be the front of the car covered in distorted cladding. The new CLE will come with a unique face, slimmer headlights and a sportier posture than the C-Class.
The car’s sloping roofline and trimmed rear end add to the sporty look of this model. The rear has no holes for exhaust outlets which suggests that this is a non-AMG variant. The new CLE should also borrow from the C-Class cabin, with a slight change in styling. We hope the tech-filled interior of the C-Class can easily fit into the CLE.
Crossovers and SUVs continue to dominate the sales charts, and automakers have changed their lineups to reflect changing demand. At Mercedes, rumors suggest that means allowing the new CLE to serve as a replacement for the C-Class and E-Class coupe and convertible models.
Mercedes hasn’t indicated when it will reveal the new CLE coupe and convertible, but that should happen before the end of 2022. We expect the car to go on sale for the 2023 model year, with the hotter variant arriving at many dealerships. at a later time. The AMG variant probably won’t arrive until 2024.
