After a long series of spy shots and teasers, the Civic Type R is finally ready for primetime. Hot hatchback debut coincides with 50th the anniversary of the Civic nameplate as well as 30 years since the Type R first hit the streets. Honda says it will be the most powerful Type R ever produced, which has set a new record for the fastest front-wheel drive car around the Suzuka.

We know it will be the last ICE-only model Honda has ever sold in Europe, and spy images of the prototype have revealed a more tame design compared to the old FK7 Type R. It will still have a triple exhaust and a large exhaust. wings, but it seems that the exterior appearance has been refined with fewer false vents.
In an auto industry where everyone seems to be focusing on SUVs – electric preferably – the CTR will be a breath of fresh air for fans. The manual gearbox is a dying breed and will be adored by those who want to feel more in control and unconcerned, automatic in almost all cases faster.
Speaking of stick shifts, Honda has to worry about new rivals as Toyota just put out a 300-hp Corolla GR, even though it’s technically more similar to competitor VW Golf R in that it has AWD.
