Maserati GranTurismo Folgore Spy Rises Low To The Ground

“The world’s first electric luxury sports car” is Maserati’s way of describing the GranTurismo Folgore, which has been the target of a lengthy teaser campaign. Our spies have caught prototypes in and around the Nürburgring wearing camouflage that doesn’t really hide much. This is more in line with the livery line as we can observe most of the production details, including the real-looking front grille.

The overall appearance is expected to be a spitting image of the gasoline-fueled GranTurismo that is likely to be revealed before the end of this year. The all-electric Folgore will come out in 2023 with three motors producing a combined output of “over” 1,200 horsepower. It will do 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in under three seconds and reach a top speed of over 186 mph (300 km/h).

The prototype rises impressively to the ground on production wheels with red brake calipers lurking from behind. Maserati says the GranTurismo Folgore will be the “lowest full-electric on the luxury market” by installing the battery low for optimal weight distribution and to lower the center of gravity.

The test vehicle has a pair of bucket seats with a roll cage behind it, which obviously won’t happen on the production model. A closer look at the prototype reveals a charging port mounted under the taillights on the driver’s side. Previous encounters of the ICE model showed a more rounded fuel cap for the gas tank on the left-hand rear fender.

To be honest, the new GranTurismo doesn’t look much different from the previous model that retired at the end of 2019. Some would argue that it’s a bit of a letdown since the GT was launched in 2007. However, it’s better to wait for the production model to break the cover and see how the evolutionary design works on the coupe. high performance.

We are pleased that parent company Stellantis is giving Maserati the attention it deserves by finally launching a new product. The MC20 supercar is the first, but it’s the Grecale crossover that can make or break the troubled Italian marque. The next-generation Quattroporte and Levante will arrive in 2025 with an EV drivertrain.
