The Ford F-150 Raptor R teaser campaign heats up in a new video of a desert-burning truck. There’s no need to wait long for the full rollout of the meaner pickup on Monday, July 18th.
We know that the Raptor R packs a V8 powerplant. All signs point to the factory being the supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine of the Mustang Shelby GT500. That makes 760 horsepower (567 kilowatts) in that application, but the output is reported to be slightly lower in the truck. In an earlier teaser, Ford claimed that the truck was “scary fast.”

There are two rumored possibilities for the gearbox. Might continue to use the 10-speed automatic like the standard Raptor. Alternatively, there has been speculation about the truck getting a seven-speed dual clutch transmission from the Shelby GT500.
Motor1.com actually got a brief chance to see the Raptor R speed through the desert. The V8 makes an aggressive sound.
The Raptor is more than just straight-line speed. The existing pickup already has an impressive suspension setup to absorb rough terrain. The R version appears to have a distinct trailing arm at the back. There may be more improvements that we can’t see yet. Spare parts will allow owners to take advantage of the extra power when off-road.
In terms of styling, spy shots show the Raptor R very much like the standard Raptor. The photos show there could be minor tweaks like revisions to the front bumper.
After debuting July 18th, the Raptor R will enter production in late 2022. They will probably be available in showrooms before the end of the year. Pricing remains a mystery but definitely more than the Raptor’s base cost of $71,700 after a destination fee of $1,795.
Ford announced the Raptor R on February 3, 2021, which happens to be the same day the company reveals the standard Raptor. This surprised the release of two variants and made us wait for the more powerful model.
