The Subaru Outback and Legacy received a mid-cycle update for the 2023 model year. The company now has pricing for all trim levels and changes to the vehicle. Shipments of both begin this fall.
In addition to the updated styling, the Outback and Legacy 2023 have an updated EyeSight safety assist system that has a wider field of view, updated control software and an electric brake booster. Subaru says this technology operates more smoothly and under a greater range of conditions.

There have been several infotainment updates. The base Outback and Legacy trims continue to have dual 7.0-inch center information displays, but Subaru says there’s improved on-screen controls. Models with an 11.6-inch infotainment system get standard wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. The company claims the on-screen layout is also better for this unit.
Some of the smaller interior tweaks include a new USB-C input on the front center console and another one for rear passengers for the Premium trim level. The dome and cargo area lights now have LED lighting.

The Outback Onyx Edition XT now comes standard with navigation, automatic reverse braking and a powerful moonroof. On the 2022 model, this equipment is a $1,845 option.
Additionally, the Outback Limited gets a 12-way electric driver’s seat with dual-position memory and power lumbar support. Legacy Limited continues to come with a 10-way powered driver’s seat.
For the Legacy 2023, the Sport trim now comes with a turbocharged 2.4 liter boxer engine. This grade has red accents on the front grille and Magnetite Gray Metallic on the side mirrors and trunk spoiler.
The Sport builds on the Premium trim and adds a sport-tuned suspension, LED fog lamps, power moonroof and 11.6-inch STARLINK Multimedia Navigation. Additional standard safety features include Automatic Reverse Braking and the DriverFocus® Fault Mitigation System.
The top Touring trims of the 2023 Outback and Legacy get a new wide-angle mono camera that comes in addition to the dual-camera EyeSight system. This technology can more easily identify pedestrians and bicycles at intersections. The vehicle also gets an LCD rearview mirror with automatic dimming and a compass.
The updated model has the same engine as before. The base engine is a 2.5-liter flat four-cylinder that produces 182 horsepower (135 kilowatts) and 176 pound-feet (238 Newton-meters). Another option is a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four that offers 260 hp (194 kW) and 277 lb-ft (376 Nm). All models have CVT and all-wheel drive.
