When you have had a sense of independence and adventure since you were a child, building your own camper will come as no surprise. That’s who Cristin Whetten really is, and this is his Toyota Tacoma turned into a full-time adventure machine slash motorhome.
Otherwise known on social media channels as ugly brunetteWhetten built his own Toyota Tacoma camper with the help of a friend. This is completely homemade and one-of-a-kind, built in the driveway for two weeks in the middle of winter. So yes, we completely agree with his social media handles for this reason alone, among other things.
Featured in Small House Tour on YouTube, the badass Whetten motorhome has gone through a lot of changes over the years. It started out as a bed and a heavy garbage carrier. A roof awning was later added and finally, the rear cab of the truck has also been converted for storage. In fact, this is where the fridge is located, along with other storage spaces.
Other features of the camper include a giant batting tent that can be used by one person, covering three quarters of the truck. In addition to the awning, it also has triple window screens, a newly installed diesel heater, roof-mounted solar panels, and a portable toilet for emergencies.
For cooking and bathing, the tailgate is converted into an outdoor kitchen and shower. The entire rig is also insulated, which makes the camper adaptable to different types of climates. Adjustments have also been applied to the truck mechanic, making it ready for off-road adventures.
Whetten has been to many places but he shares with Hest that the coolest place he’s ever been is on a secluded beach in Baja, Mexico. You can follow his adventures on Instagram and YouTube if you’re looking for inspiration for similar DIY camping gear.
