Can’t wait for the new BMW M2 to arrive? The hot coupe is slated to debut in October, though it won’t go on sale until 2023. And if supply chain issues are still an issue next year, there could be further delays awaiting buyers.

Meanwhile, the current generation 2 Series is available today. It debuted last year, with the top-of-the-line M240i xDrive doling out 382 horsepower (285 kilowatts) from the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. Enter AC Schnitzer, which recently took to social media with a list of modest upgrades for power, handling and aesthetics. It starts under the hood with a soft tone that boosts engine output to 414 hp (309 kW) without the need for any hardware changes. The upgraded exhaust adds to the aural enjoyment of BMW’s much-loved six-pot.

The German tuning company is also pursuing the basics of the 2er with a sports suspension kit. Upgraded springs provide an inch of drop at the front and rear, and new dampers are also part of the package. Half-inch wheel spacers were added on each side, providing a one-inch increase to the car’s overall trajectory. 20-inch AC Schnitzer wheels are also included. A front splitter, rear spoiler and roof spoiler add some aggression to the exterior, while a sports steering wheel and aluminum trim enhancements adorn the interior.

If you choose to wait for M2, you’ll probably have a little more power to play with. It’s expected to use the M4’s twin-turbocharged engine, although it’s tuned to around 450 hp (336 kW). The M2 will also be available with a six-speed manual transmission, while the other Series 2 models are automatic only.

However, it could be a year before the first M2 reaches customers. With 414 hp and a tweaked suspension, Schnitzer’s AC offering shouldn’t be far from the M2’s performance levels, and that’s something current buyers can jump on.
