The GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition 2023 is here to make an already tough truck version even tougher on off-road terrain. It debuted at the Overland Expo Pacific Northwest. The truck goes on sale later in the 2023 model year. Pricing is not yet available.

Upgrades from American Expedition Vehicles include new front and rear bumpers with restore points. The company manufactures the pieces from 3 millimeter thick stamped steel with powder and e-coating for increased durability. There is a place on the front bumper for attaching a winch. The truck also has a different front grille from the standard Sierra 1500 AT4X.

The AEV also fits five slip plates. They are positioned to protect the front approach, steering gear, transfer box, fuel tank and rear differential. The company manufactures them from hot stamped boron steel, which is three and a half times stronger than equivalent cold stamped high-strength steel components.

The Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition features 18-inch AEV Salta wheels with laser engraving and a glossy black finish. They have hidden valves that protect these pieces from rocks when off-roading. There are 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires.

Improved bumpers and wheels give the AEV Edition better off-road conditions. The angle of approach is 32.5 degrees, compared to 25.5 degrees on the regular AT4X. The breakover angle is 23.0 degrees, versus 22.7 degrees. The departure angle is increased to 23.4 degrees instead of 23.0 degrees. Ground clearance of 11.2 inches, up from 10.8 inches for the AT4X.

Smaller design touches include glossy black door handles and a black contrast interior tailgate. As an option, customers can add rocker panel guards that guard the side sills and frame rails. Bolt step assistance is another available upgrade.

Inside, the AEV logo appears on the headrests and all-weather floor mats. They all come in the Obsidian Rush AT4X color scheme, which is a mix of black leather with white trim.

The AEV edition also has all the off-road goodies of the regular AT4X. It has Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers and locking differentials at both corners. Power comes from a 6.2-liter V8 that makes 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet. There is a ten-speed automatic transmission with a transfer case that offers both high and low shift gears with four-wheel drive.
