At first glance, the revamped Ford Escape in this new spy shot doesn’t look any different from the example seen last month. However, close inspection reveals that this Escape is sporting a new ST-Line badge on its front fender.
Ford doesn’t currently offer the Escape in the ST-Line trim in the US, but does offer it in the Edge and Explorer. The ST-Line on that model adds a variety of visual upgrades over the hotter ST variant without the powerful powertrain or higher price tag. The Escape doesn’t have a proper ST model either, and we haven’t heard of plans to build one from Ford either. In 2020, however, James Hughes of Ford called the Escape ST a “fantastic” idea.

The appearance of the Escape ST-Line could indicate that Ford is planning the right Escape ST. The mid-cycle redesign would be a golden opportunity to revamp the model lineup and introduce a new trim or two. However, Ford has yet to confirm anything. One photo shows off the interior, and it doesn’t look like Ford has made any major changes there.
If Ford follows the formula of other ST-Line variants with the new Escape, we expect it to be a visual upgrade without significant powertrain changes. The revamped Escape should continue to offer two EcoBoost engine options, a hybrid, and a plug-in hybrid. A proper Escape ST can get something spicier under the hood. Ford is offering the Escape ST-Line in Australia in front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive and PHEV variants.
The Escape ST-Line is as naked as it was in the previous spy shot, without the speck of camouflage to be found anywhere in a crossover. The new Escape will receive a new face with redesigned grille, hood, bumper, fog lamps and headlights. The front is also equipped with a light bar that connects the headlights. The rear will receive new taillights. Non-ST-Line models can accept different front-end styles.
We don’t know when Ford will launch the new Escape and the more luxurious Escape ST-Line, but we expect the automaker to host the official debut before the end of September. Rumors suggest Ford will start production of the Escape in November. The addition of the ST-Line will help Ford differentiate it further from the Bronco Sport, with the Escape taking on a more upscale aesthetic with the ST-Line.
