Audi RS3 Sportback Hulks With ABT Becomes 500-HP RS3-R

For people in North America, the Audi RS3 Sportback is forbidden fruit. We at least have an RS3 sedan to play with, but across the pond, long-roof fans have a hotter RS3 for Germany-based ABT Sportsline to enjoy. Say hello to the ABT RS3-R.

What do you get in this package, apart from the extra R in the name? ABT calls the RS3’s turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine to 500 horsepower (368 kilowatts). The upgrades come thanks to a new intercooler and ABT engine control unit, not to mention an upgraded exhaust system that enhances the typical five-pot howl. ABT says torque has also increased to 443 pound-feet (600 Newton-meters), and the whole thing peaks with a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 3.3 seconds. The tuner can also hit the RS3’s speed limiter from 155 mph to 186 mph.

The power boost isn’t the only upgrade for the RS3-R. The ABT adds its own spring feel and stabilizer bars to the suspension in standard trim, while offering fully customizable settings as an option. Well equipped, the ride height of the RS3-R drops to 1.5 inches front and rear. The brakes remain the standard Audi edition, but the 20-inch wheels are pure ABT and wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport R tires.

Visually, the RS3-R sports an aero package that connects all kinds of carbon fiber components. You’ll find them on the front lip spoiler and corner winglets, side mirror caps, and on the rear of the car for the skirt inserts and roof spoiler. All things considered, it’s a modest visual upgrade although the bare carbon fiber definitely stands out when paired with a dazzling green. A custom ABT logo and branding inside and out completes the package.

No cost was mentioned for the ABT RS3-R, but only 200 are planned for production.
