Friends, it’s time to remind about the stupidity of street racing. Engaging in such antics on a public street is never great idea, but driving onto the shoulder of a busy California highway during rush hour? Neither way ends well.
And you know what? That doesn’t end well for the Nissan 370Z driver in this video. Recently posted by ViralHog, the accident The accident occurred on June 29 in El Sobrante, California. It’s a suburb of Oakland just north of the city, and through the magic of Google Maps, we can tell you that the accident happened just west of I-80 just past the Solano Avenue flyover. Provided that the GPS data on the dashboard camera video is accurate, we can also say it happened at 5:38 p.m. local time – right in the middle of rush hour.
The video begins with the camera car approaching the flyover. Seconds later we saw a sports car pass over the right shoulder, but it was too late. The driver lost control, and as the car rolled back onto the highway, we saw the unmistakable profile of the 370Z, narrowly missing three cars as it circled across four lanes of traffic. That’s when the second car is seen flying to the left, and it’s also easy to spot thanks to its signature black roof, rear fascia and black wheels. That’s the Toyota Camry TRD which packs 301 horsepower from its 3.5-liter V6 engine.
According to the video description, the two cars are racing. Whether it meant a speed contest or some kind of evil pursuit, it was impossible to tell. That wasn’t a problem either, as the Nissan hit the inner barrier hard enough to flip onto its roof, spilling parts on the highway while hurtling back into traffic. Given the timing, luckily there weren’t more cars on the road, and from what we can see in the video, the damage was limited to just the 370Z. The camera car continues, with the video ending shortly after going through the massacre.
As for the Nissan driver, we have no news of any injuries or if there were any passengers in the car. The video’s description says the driver fled the scene, so if there are any injuries, they don’t appear to be too serious. As for the driver on the Camry, there’s also no word on what happened there.
This melee could have ended up much worse. Guys, stay safe out there, and if you ever feel the need for speed, settle that problem on the track.
