Vehicles of various shapes and sizes have been tested by deer. The dreaded test, which measures a vehicle’s ability to avoid sudden obstacles at speed, has seen various car brands fail despite their price tags. Now, the security test has counted a new failure, with YouTube’s permission km77.com.
The Skoda Octavia Combi RS is the latest victim of the deer test. The wagon version of the sporty compact car failed to complete the 77 kilometers per hour (47.8 miles per hour) benchmark, though facilitators noted that it wasn’t entirely the car’s fault.

The Octavia Combi RS is available as diesel, petrol and PHEV. What was tested was a more powerful front-wheel-drive PHEV, producing 245 horsepower (180 kilowatts) and 295 pound-feet (400 Newton-meters) of torque. The wheels are wrapped in Bridgestone Turanza tires and the car is equipped with an optional adaptive suspension.
As mentioned, the long-roof Octavia failed to complete the track at 77 km/h. The best attempt was at 43.5 mph (70 km/h), with the successful attempt failing by hitting a cone or two, especially in the second lane.
In comparison, the Mercedes E-Class Estate, the larger wagon, outperformed the Octavia with a best effort at 46.60 mph (75 km/h).
However, the driver said that the tires did not provide enough grip, which caused the car to not complete the maneuver at a faster speed. As shown in the slow motion replay, the rubber doesn’t stick to the road. He was surprised by the test results because the car performed well on highways and on winding roads.
In fact, km77.com notes that of all the cars tested using the Bridgestone Turanza, each failed to hit the 77 km/h benchmark. The best effort recorded was at 75 km/h.
