Sales of the Cadillac Escalade increased in the United States, Canada and Mexico during the first quarter of 2022.

In the United States, Cadillac Escalade shipments totaled 10,505 units in Q1 2022, an increase of about 7 percent compared to 9,842 units sold in Q1 2021.

In Canada, Cadillac Escalade shipments totaled 723 units in Q1 2022, an increase of about 45 percent compared to 498 units sold in Q1 2021.

In Mexico, Cadillac Escalade shipments totaled 286 units in Q1 2022, an increase of about 80 percent compared to 159 units sold in Q1 2021.

Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)

Sales of the Cadillac Escalade bucked the cumulative trend of Cadillac sales of a 24 percent decline during Q1 2022, as luxury SUVs once again dominated the segment in the United States. With 10,505 shipments during the first quarter of 2022, a 6.7 percent year-over-year increase, the Escalade outsold all of its direct rivals combined again. The segment’s newest competitor, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, moved up to second with 3,169 deliveries, pushing the Lincoln Navigator to third as sales fell 55 percent to 2,148 units. The Infiniti QX80 took fourth place with 1,064 shipments, down 75 percent, while last place fell to the Lexus LX, which saw sales tank 58 percent to 558 shipments as the luxury brand unveiled its next-generation model.

From a segment share standpoint, Escalade dominates with 60 percent, up 12 percentage points. The Grand Wagoneer held the share of the second-largest segment with 18 percent, followed by the Navigator with 12 percent, down 12 percentage points. The QX80 gained a six percent share, down 15 percent. Finally, LX held the smallest segment share, dropping four percentage points to a measly three percent share.

Overall, the full-size luxury SUV segment shrank 14 percent to 17,444 units, meaning the Escalade outperformed the segment average. The Escalade and Grand Wagoneer are the only vehicles in the competitive bracket to outperform the segment average, as the other three rivals underperform.

For the sake of reference, below we include the sales figures for the full-size luxury crossover. While they differ mechanically from the aforementioned body-on-frame SUVs by having a unibody construction, they are usually cross-shopped and considered an alternative. Currently, the only full-size luxury crossovers are the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class and the new BMW X7, although Audi is rumored to be working on a Q9 in the future.

Cadillac Society Take

The Cadillac Escalade continues to stay ahead of the competition, once again outperforming all of its competitors combined during the first quarter of 2022. The strong interest in full-size luxury SUVs can be attributed to the continued success of the fifth-generation model. , which was completely redesigned for the 2021 model year. Additionally, we expect sales to be supported by the introduction of the upcoming high-performance Escalade-V, which will go on sale in late 2022 as a model year 2023 vehicle.

Considering that the Cadillac Escalade continues to dominate the full-size luxury SUV segment in terms of sales volume, it can be said that it is one of the most coveted vehicles on the market. This is especially evident by the lack of discounts and incentives offered for the model, which suggests that Cadillac sees no need to incentivize buyers to consider the luxury SUV. In addition, some dealers ask for a fairly large markup on the sticker price of the luxury SUV. In other words, customers are very likely to buy Escalade even though the price is higher.

With that in mind, however, it would be unwise to sleep in the competition. In fact, the newest competitor in the segment, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, rose to second place in terms of sales volume. That’s a quick increase for a model that didn’t even exist in last year’s quarter. While it didn’t significantly eat into the Escalade’s sales in the first quarter of 2022, it did outperform all other competitors, potentially establishing its footing as a formidable Escalade rival.
