Trademark Ford Mustang Black Horse Name Worldwide

Ford did the trademark last week, pitching it around the world for a potential new Mustang. The Blue Oval trademarked the Mustang Dark Horse name, and it could become the moniker for the new Black Accent Pack the company is developing for the model.

When Ford announced the new Black Accent Package for the Mustang earlier this month, Blue Oval tweeted a single image showing a black pony badge on the back. The company is also holding a contest to gather potential names for the new package.

It ran from June 1 to June 7, and now, a few weeks later, Ford is trademarking the Mustang Dark Horse name worldwide. The contest page says that Ford received over 25,000 submissions. Ford is the trademark in the US, Canadathat European Union, New Zealand, and Australia. Ford really covered the base with this trim. While this is the new name for the model, it’s not the Mustang S550’s first black accent pack.

Ford is offering the Mustang Stealth Package for the 2022 model year, giving it a black two-door badge, 19-inch Ebony Black wheels, and dark side mirror caps. Ford did even less with the interior, adding a illuminated sill plate and a matte/gloss black finish for the instrument panel badge.

Ford is offering a package on the 310-hp (231-kW) EcoBoost variant, and it’s unclear if Ford will offer the new Dark Horse package on the V8-powered GT. However, the GT often wears the GT badge between the taillights, and the teaser image shows a pony badge instead.

The tweet reveals that the car will receive a black badge and aluminum rims painted black. We expect Ford to make other visual enhancements inside and out, but we don’t expect anything too big. Last year’s Stealth package was likely a good indication of what to expect, but we expect to be pleasantly surprised.

We’re nearing the end of the current-generation Mustang’s lifecycle, with the next-gen version already seen testing on public roads. The new one won’t debut until April 17, 2023, and it looks like Ford has at least one more special Mustang to debut before the switch.
