VW Amarok 2023 Showcases Design Details In New Round Teaser

For an automaker of such magnitude, the Volkswagen Group certainly lacks in the trucking department. For this reason, it is not surprising that the commercial side of the conglomerate made a big deal of the second-generation Amarok. Debuting on July 7, the body-on-frame pickup has been the subject of a lengthy teaser campaign that shows no signs of slowing down.

In the latest preview, the Amarok 2023 reveals more of its production skin with chunky wheel arches, matrix LED headlights and two-tone wheels with six wheel nuts instead of the previous five. Decals seem to be back in vogue and Ford Ranger-based trucks will have them, with black graphics along the underside of the doors. The blue pickup appears to be a rugged trim level, possibly a Panamericana, while the silver variant appears to be an upscale version, most likely the Aventura.

Previous teasers had revealed the new Amarok will get a portrait-oriented touchscreen with a 12-inch diagonal and Ford’s SYNC4 operating system. There will still be a few physical buttons right below the giant screen, but most of the functionality will be integrated into the center screen. Some of the other traditional controls will be placed around the gear lever for quick access without having to take your eyes off the road.

A recent teaser image shows the full tailgate of the truck, complete with prominent “AMAROK” debossed lettering and sizable V6 and 4Motion badges on each bottom corner of the tailgate. The lower version will match the four-cylinder powertrain and the cheaper one will use rear-wheel drive.

Larger than its predecessor, the new Amarok in the dual cabin variant will measure 5,350 millimeters (211 inches) in length, with 3,220 mm (127 inches) represented by the wheelbase. Alloys will vary in size from 17 for the base model to 21 inches for the range-topping trim. The new Ranger has received the Raptor treatment, but it remains to be seen if VW will do the Amarok R’s equivalent.

After premiering a week from today, the new ute will enter production at Ford’s plant in South Africa. The original Amarok endured as VW would resume assembly at Pacheco, Argentina.
