Technically, the new Ford Ranger is yet to debut for US buyers. The global debut of Ford’s midsize truck is in November 2021, so we know how it looks like. We also know general statistics, although powertrain options definitely differ between markets. Now, we see there may be other options for Ford customers in North America, where bigger is generally considered better.
This fresh spy image clearly shows a stretched Ranger. The wheelbase is noticeably longer compared to the global model in the SuperCrew spec, and the reason is simple. This truck pairs a larger SuperCrew truck cab with a 6ft longer bed. It’s a pair you can’t get right now, as the long bed is only offered with the smaller SuperCab greenhouse. The SuperCrew truck gets a 5 foot bed.
Our spy sources believe this will be an option only offered in North America. There are several good reasons to back that up, with the first being that big trucks sell well in the region. The six-foot bed is sure to appeal to people who haul things in regularly, and having room inside for five adults is a bonus. Beyond that, we haven’t seen such a combination offered on the next-gen Ranger in other markets.

Could a bigger Ranger have an impact on F-150 sales? The larger cabin with the longer bed doesn’t bother Ford’s full-size pickup, but it’s just on the smaller side of the equation. The F-150 SuperCrew is available with a larger 6.5-foot bed, and down to the SuperCab, you can still get your best-selling truck with an 8-foot bed.
What else can we expect from a US-spec Ford Ranger? Global models offer a modern digital cockpit with digital gauges and a 10.1-inch or 12-inch center infotainment screen. There’s no reason to think Ford will change the interior, although it’s unlikely we’ll see a line of turbocharged diesel engines offered in other markets. The familiar 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will return, and an upgraded V6 could become optional. The hot Ranger Raptor has been confirmed for the US market, possibly using the 400-hp, twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter engine from the Ford Explorer ST.
The Ranger Raptor is expected to go on sale in 2023, but before that happens, the standard model will need to debut in North America. It should happen later this year.
