The 2022 Goodwood Speed Festival, in short, is amazing. We had the opportunity to attend this year’s event thanks to Subaru, who teamed up with the 1983 Subaru GL “Family Huckster” Travis Pastrana and helped Prodrive debut the gorgeous P25 22B restomod. Plus, there’s plenty to see and do all weekend, especially on Sundays when a hill-climbing competition puts some of the world’s fastest cars in the driveway.
We’ve spoken at length about the pint-sized McMurtry Speirling, who broke Goodwood’s record by nearly a full second with Max Chilton at the wheel. But there’s a whole fleet of fast cars besides Speirlings trying to set their own records, from Subaru’s rally-ready station wagons to Dodge Viper race cars.

From the group, there are a variety of powertrains and body styles to choose from, including four electric vehicles, one minivan and one station wagon that made the top 10. Porsche is the only manufacturer with two vehicles to qualify: the 911 GT3 Cup and the 718 GT4 ePerformance concept. The Ford Pro Electric SuperVan, Subaru GL Family Huckster, and McMurtry Spierling, meanwhile, are new vehicles built specifically for this year’s hill climb.
The Dodge Viper GTS-R with its retro-tastic Playstation 2 livery is perhaps the most surprising of the bunch. While its massive 8.0-liter V10 engine still isn’t a match for most EVs, it’s easily one of the best-sounding vehicles in the group. However, other competition cars such as the H24 Green GT and the Jaguar XJR-12D – previously hydrogen-powered racers – were more successful than the Viper.
As far as production cars go, none of them broke the top ten. But Lucid Air, piloted by Ben Collins, aka Stig himself, was the fastest, clocking a final time of 50.79 seconds and taking home a 12th overall finish.
