This year’s Made in America Index from mobil.com has two automakers that dominate the top ten list – Honda and Tesla. They occupy eight positions, leaving little room for anyone else. It’s always interesting to see which brands and models make it to this annual list.
Honda has dominated this year, with Passport, Ridgeline, Odyssey and Pilot all making the top ten, but not dominating alone. Tesla topped four more spots with the Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y, with the Y and 3 taking the top two spots on the list.

Rounding out the top ten were the Lincoln Corsair, who jumped from 64 to 3rd, and the Jeep Cherokee to 7th, dropping from 4th. Four Honda cars made the 2021 list, more or less jostling for a new spot in 2022. Tesla also had a Model 3 and a Model Y on last year’s list, with two other models joining this year.
Here are the details for the top 20:
- Tesla Model Y
- Tesla Model 3
- Lincoln Corsair
- Honda Passport
- Tesla Model X
- Tesla Model S
- Jeep Cherokee
- Honda Ridgeline
- Honda Odyssey
- Honda pilots
- Chevrolet Corvette
- GMC Gorge
- Chevrolet Colorado
- Acura MDX
- Acura RDX
- Acura TLX
- Ford Rangers
- Ford Bronco
- Dodge Durango
- Ford Expedition/Expedition Max
Honda is still very well represented when you expand the list, with three Acura models, MDX, RDX, and TLX, making up the index. General Motors also has three cars on the list, and there are three Ford Motor Company models there too – the new Bronco, Ranger, and Expedition. mobil.com inspect model assembly locations, parts content, engine origin, transmission origin, and US manufacturing workforce.
The automotive industry is constantly changing, and the last two years have been an incredible rollercoaster. The upcoming onslaught of electric vehicles could turn this list forward as automakers begin to navigate how to manufacture EVs in global markets.
