What was old became new again at Bentley, and we mean it. Through the Bentley Mulliner, the iconic Speed Six from the late 1920s will return as a follow-up to the series. Only 12 will be built, and if you have the money to get one, it’s too late. Each is discussed.

Let’s take a short trip back to the late 1920s. Bentley is a force to be reckoned with on the racing scene, thanks to the famous 4.5 liter Blower car which was also recently resurrected with the follow-up series. The Speed Six is the successor to that engine, swapping the supercharger for a larger 6.5-liter straight-six engine. Utilizing twin carburetors and high-performance camshafts, the Speed Six delivers 180 brake horsepower in standard trim. In racing trim, however, power was increased to 200 bhp and the engine was installed in the car with a shorter 132-inch wheelbase.

That’s the car that Mulliner will make. Using the original blueprints and direct analysis of the two surviving Speed Six models, the recreation will be built to the same specifications as the original. That includes the same epic engine with the same power curve, and to ensure accuracy, Bentley will use the 1929 Speed Six in its Legacy Collection as a performance benchmark.

“After the extraordinary level of skill acquired by the Mulliner team through the development of the Blower Continuation Series, and with the car’s success with their customers, the opportunity to honor the Speed Six is a fantastic next step,” said Chairman and Bentley. Chief Executive Adrian Hallmark. “It is imperative that we protect, preserve and develop not only this important part of our heritage, but also the knowledge we have acquired through working with this Bentley classic.”

This will be the development vehicle for the remaining models, of which only 12 will be made. Each car will retail for £1. 1.5 million, which currently translates to $1.84 million in US currency. As previously mentioned, every Speed Six already has a buyer.
