Armored cars must protect passengers from various threats, using many different techniques to prevent bullets and bombs. A new video from Inkas Armored Vehicles Manufacturing’s YouTube channel shows what a car goes through during testing, with the Toyota Land Cruiser surviving some brutal R&D that saw the crossover hit with bullets, grenades, landmines and 15 kilograms of TNT.
The video opens by showing a Toyota pitted against and photographed from 780 rounds of ammunition from various caliber weapons that hit it. The video then shows the Land Cruiser being sent off for some more brutal testing. Additional ballistic testing included releasing 6 DM51 grenades on the roof, 4 DM51 grenades under the floor, 2 land mines, and 15 kilograms of TNT from a distance of two meters (6.5 feet).

The explosion rocked the Land Cruiser, but nothing entered the interior, keeping the passenger compartment safe for its occupants. This is a series of brutal tests that should exceed what would happen in the real world. Armored cars often have a skilled driver behind the wheel who is trained on how to react in such situations. The last thing any driver wants is to remain a sitting duck, but the armor from Inkas Armored Vehicle Manufacturer must be beatable.

The company has also lined the BMX X7, Lincoln Navigator, and Infiniti QX80, which require more of an upgrade than thick glass and body panels. The extra weight often required upgraded suspension and reinforced engine and transmission parts to handle the added weight of the armor. Inkas also manufactures special purpose armored vehicles for those who need something specific.
The interesting part of this video is showing off the interior. The swaying seemed violent, but the doll in the back seat was left unharmed. It wasn’t anything we wanted to experience, but it was cool to see how the armor worked from inside the vehicle.
