Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 Bison Toughened-Up 2023 Debuts This Summer

Last year, Chevrolet introduced the 2022 Silverado ZR2. It’s a tough truck with some off-road goodies, but Chevrolet is ready to go one step further. The automaker released a teaser for the upcoming Silverado ZR2 Bison 2023, which will add a more powerful upgrade to the pickup.

The teaser doesn’t reveal much, but Chevrolet is partnering again with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). The pair teamed up on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison launched for 2019. We expect the Silverado ZR2 Bison to receive many of the same upgrades as its Colorado sibling.

The teaser shows some of the items, but they’re shrouded in shadow, making them hard to tell apart. We expect the AEV to add a lot of underbody protection, as it did in the Colorado, which frees up the five Boron steel underbody skid plates. Other Colorado upgrades include a new front bumper with winch, new rear bumper with tow hook, 2.0-inch suspension lift, and unique wheels.

The Silverado ZR2 has come with many off-road advantages, such as the suspension lifted from the 40mm Multimatic DSSV spool-valve damper. Chevrolet also provided a revised bumper to the truck that increased the approach angle to 31.8 degrees. The Silverado ZR2 gets its power from a 6.2-liter V8 engine that makes 420 horsepower (313 kilowatts) and 460 pound-feet (624 Newton-meters) of torque, and we expect the same from the ZR2 Bison.

The teaser video appears to show off extra underbody protection, an improved differential, and a revised front bumper. The video shows a pair of fog lights that look different from the ones on the ZR2; However, it is not clear how different the new bumper will look.

Luckily, we didn’t have to wait long. The Chevrolet ZR2 Bison 2023 debuts sometime this summer, and we expect it to go on sale before the end of the year. This will give Chevrolet another rugged pickup in its portfolio that is better suited to fight the headlights of the Ford F-150 Raptor, even if the Chevrolet example is a little lighter than the Ford. The Ram is in a different league to the 702-hp (523-kW) TRX.
