Earlier this year, Subaru, Hoonigan and Travis Pastrana revealed the heavily modified Subaru GL wagon. The trio has kept the details under wraps, but now we know that the long-roofed Subaru will be making its public debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. It will also appear in a new Gymkhana video later this year, but these are the specs we like the most.

Subaru packs the GL, dubbed the “Family Huckster,” with an 862-horsepower (634-kilowatt) boxer four-cylinder engine, pairing it with a six-speed sequential gearbox and all-wheel drive. Subaru did not specify the modifications. The company makes the body out of carbon fiber, attaching it to a sophisticated tubular space frame.

One of the standout features of this wagon is its active aerodynamics. The GL sports a large rear aero wing at the rear that works alongside the hydraulic aero caps on the front and rear fenders. Above, a functional carbon fiber roof rack helps direct air to NACA ducts on the roof which drains it to a rear-mounted radiator.

Specially forged, one-off monoblock KMC wheels placed between ground level and long-travel suspension to World Rally Championship specifications. The forged wheel design keeps it light and durable, and Subaru is modeling it after the eight-spoke wheels offered on Subaru models from the 1980s.

A spark of retro inspiration also found its way in the vehicle, with Subaru attaching an authentic radio from a 1983 GL wagon to a dashboard remade from a Pastrana ride. Subaru uses blue carbon fiber in the remade dashboard, a callback to the original blue dash. The car also features a 12-inch digital instrument cluster programmed to feature retro gauges.

The 1983 Subaru GL train will make its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which runs from June 23 to June 26. Pastrana will ride it in the famous hillclimb competition. He finished second overall last year. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a wild Subaru, as the wagon will also appear in this year’s Gymkhana video.
