2023 Acura Integra Hits Dyno To Reveal It Makes More Power Than Advertised

You probably know how German brands usually underestimate their engines, right? Well, they’re not the only ones as Acura has now been caught “lying” in the best possible way. Honda’s luxury division has rated the revival of the much-vaunted Integra at 200 horsepower and 192 pound-feet (260 Newton-meters) of torque. Like all automakers, the figures apply to the output produced by the turbocharged 1.5-liter engine at the crank.

The people above AHC Garage wanted to test those numbers and pair it to the new Acura Integra A-Spec 2023 Technology Package dyno with a six-speed manual gearbox. After three back-to-back dyno pulls, the sporty liftback produces 199 hp on the final lap, so it’s almost exactly what it says on the specs sheet. However, the power generated during the dyno test was available at the wheels, so accounting for a drivetrain loss of around 10 percent, the four-pot should be good for around 220 hp at the crank.

As far as torque is concerned, the highest figures are reached during the first lap when the L-series engine delivers 200 lb-ft (271 Nm) at the wheels. It’s a healthy improvement over the numbers that Acura puts on the crank. Of course, there’s always room for improvement, especially as fans feel the Integra should pack more punch than the Civic Si. It remains to be seen if the hotter Type S and/or Type R will follow to address this issue.

In an ideal scenario, the upcoming Civic Type R with over 300 hp would spawn the equivalent Integra, but for now, a little over 200 hp should suffice for the base model. Priced at $36,895 MSRP, the Acura Integra A-Spec Tech Package 2023 represents an attractive package and a solid alternative to the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe in the 228i front-wheel drive variant.

As a refresher, there’s the Honda-badged Integra for sale in China which is nothing more than a Civic sedan with a few minor styling changes compared to the global model.
