The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 won’t go into production until this summer, but plenty of examples are already out in the wild. A short YouTube video captures one Z06 on a public road wearing what looks like a factory license plate, and the driver isn’t shy about pointing out a strong exhaust note.
The Z06 uses a naturally aspirated 5.5 liter DOHC V8 engine with a flat plane crankshaft. Chevrolet engineers spent two years perfecting the exhaust sound so it’s like no other Corvette ever made, and this video, even with all the wind noise, captures a car that sounds bad.

The engine produces 670 horsepower (500 kilowatts) and 460 pound-feet (623 Newton-meters). All that power sends the Z06 to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 2.6 seconds. The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox.
Unfortunately, not everyone gets to enjoy the Z06’s full-throated exhaust. Emission regulations in Europe and Australia forced Chevrolet to reengineer the exhaust system. The extra piping makes it impossible for Chevrolet to maintain the Z06’s floating quad center-exist exhaust system. The Z06s in those markets will feature angle-out exhaust pipes, and they could also have a slight drop in horsepower, like the Stingray.
The Corvette sound will be part of the overall package which sees the Z06 receive aerodynamic and suspension upgrades. The Z06’s position grows by 3.6 inches, which helps to match the 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels. Chevrolet has also added Brembo six-piston front brakes that hide behind the new wheels.
The Z06 sports a new front and simple rear spiller, although customers can opt for a carbon fiber aero package that adds a larger front splitter, a large rear wing, and other upgrades. Chevy says the Z06 can pull 1.22 g on a 300 ft skidpad.
Production for the 2023 Z06 won’t start until this summer, and then will have to reach out to customers. The Z06 is the next step for the new C8, but it won’t be the last as the automaker has announced plans for a hybrid and fully electric version. We don’t have to wait long for that.
