Suzuki Vision Gran Turismo Debuts With Hayabusa Engine And 3 Electric Motors

Joining the 2021 Toyota GR010 Hybrid and Roadster Shop Rampage Camaro as part of the free 1.15 Update for Gran Turismo 7, the Suzuki Vision Gran Turismo is an old but new virtual race car. It is based on the GSX-R/4 concept from 2001 (photo in second photo gallery) but completely updated to keep up with the times. The two-seater Speedster is technically mid-engined because the ICE sits between the two axles, behind the front wheels.

Instead of having an engine borrowed from the car, it uses a high-rev inline-four taken from the Hayabusa sports bike. The 1.3-liter factory works with three electric motors, two driving the front wheels and one mounted at the rear to give the Suzuki Vision Gran Turismo an all-wheel-drive layout. The combined output is 426 horsepower (318 kilowatts) at 9,700 rpm and a peak torque of 610 Newton-meters (450 pound-feet).

The hybrid engine weighs just 970 kilograms (2,138 pounds) and features a design that’s clearly derived from the Swift Sport. From the two-tone alloy wheels to the Champion Yellow body color, the latest VGT is basically a hot hatch that turns into a roofless sports car that unfortunately only exists in cyberspace. On the official Gran Turismo website, we can learn about the Gr.3 version that will follow at a later date.

Like other VGT cars before it, Suzuki’s digital creations have no chance of going into production. Hopefully, real cars will be built to be showcased at public events like the Tokyo Auto Show. We think it’s a huge improvement over the original and somewhat unique concept from more than two decades ago.

Beyond the trio of new cars, the Gran Turismo 7 adds “New Orleans” to the Scapes feature section. Update 1.15 is available for immediate download.
