Well, the rumors are true. Mercedes will launch its next-generation GLC crossover on June 1. The company previewed the model’s debut with a teaser back that doesn’t show much, but a few tweaks in the photo editor reveal a bit of it. styling.
The new GLC takes design inspiration from the new C-Class, which shouldn’t be surprising given that they both share the same foundation. Mercedes says the new GLC will use a fully digital cockpit with “extensive standard equipment.” The crossover will have “variable space,” which will likely feature swivelable second-row seats. It will also include the brand’s MBUX infotainment system.

GLC will also borrow powertrains from the new C-Class. Electrification will play a big role in that, with Mercedes offering both mild hybrid and plug-in variants. Mercedes will offer three PHEVs, which will offer an electric range of over 62 miles (100 kilometers) and reach speeds of up to 148 miles per hour (238 kilometers per hour) on an electric motor alone. Mercedes will standardize the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system across the GLC lineup.
GLC’s new platform sees the crossover grow in size over the outgoing model, which translates into larger trunk space with more head and legroom. Mercedes will help drivers adjust that extra length with rear-wheel steering, which the company offers as an option, along with air suspension.
Earlier this year, we got to ride a prototype which led us to hope that the new GLC would be a huge upgrade over the current-generation model. The company’s most popular models will come with many standard technologies, even more available from the list of options, such as a 360-degree camera.
Mercedes will launch the regular GLC variant before revealing the high-end AMG version. While the crossover has a debut date of June 1 at 5 p.m. CEST (11 a.m. ET), we expect the US spec version to get a separate reveal later. The GLC could go on sale in Europe as soon as this September, but sales in the US are likely to start later. We also expect Mercedes to launch an all-electric SUV variant of the EQC, which will share a bespoke EV platform with the EQC sedan.
