BMW fans can’t wait for May 20 to arrive. That’s when the new M4 CSL debuted into the world, and to fan the flames a bit, the official BMW M video offers up what to expect. However, it got even better, with a series of new CSL spy photos showing the interior in sharp detail. Combined, we’re easily looking at the best in what should be the hottest two-door BMW of all.
The timing of the video and spy shots couldn’t be better. BMW M shared a four-minute video on YouTube that goes over some of the prep and testing work being done on the new CSL. In the process, we get a close look at the ducktail spoiler and immediate confirmation of the rubber used – the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R. The track-focused, high-performance tires may come as no surprise, as is the lack of rear seats. The video offers a glimpse of the empty space behind the driver, and also confirms another detail: the M4 CSL will use an automatic transmission.

Not to forget the automatic stem on the center console, surrounded by carbon fiber with clearly visible M and CSL branding. Another shot of the interior captures the CSL’s aggressive front seats with nothing behind them. Removing the rear seats will be part of BMW’s weight-saving activity that could cut more than 200 pounds off the M4. And if the upgraded 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine gets the rumored 550 horsepower boost, the CSL could be very fast on the track.
Are we talking about setting a record on the fly? The video from the BMW M does hint at changing lap times at the Nordschleife, but don’t expect the CSL to rival the Porsche 911 GT2 RS for an all-out record at the Nürburgring. However, there is a very good chance that BMW will push the CSL to its limits for a factory record as the fastest production Bimmer to ever cross the ‘Ring.
