Aston Martin DBX707 Enters Production, First Customer Car Is Built


The most powerful member of the Aston Martin DBX family is now in production. The DBX707 enters the assembly line at the St Athan brand factory in Wales, where all the super-SUV variants are made. The first customer instances of the new performance DBX are now ready to ship to their new owners.

The DBX707 made its official debut in February this year when it made headlines with an acceleration of 0-60 miles per hour (0-96 kilometers per hour) in just 3.1 seconds. Its name comes from the metric horsepower figures, which translate to 697 horsepower coming from a modified version of the Mercedes-AMG 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 found under the hood.

The DBX707 is handcrafted and Aston Martin employs more than 100 newly skilled automotive technicians to work on the performance SUV. When the regular DBX hit the assembly line in St Athan, it became the first Welsh-built production car for nearly 50 years. The newest addition to the SUV lineup will be shipped to more than 50 countries around the world.

“Aston Martin is very proud to be manufacturing an industry leading product like the DBX707 from its world class facility in Wales, and we are delighted to see the first model completed,” said Michael Straughan, COO of Aston Martin.

The British automaker is proud to say that the initial reaction from customers and the media has been “overwhelming.” This is impressive considering that the DBX707’s starting price in the United States was $232,000 and that doesn’t include destination fees. The first customer samples are expected to be delivered soon.

The DBX707 is more than just an upgraded machine. There’s also a new nine-speed wet clutch gearbox, a modified rear e-diff with a shorter 3:27 final drive for better acceleration. All-wheel drive is still the same automatic system as seen on the regular DBX, although different tweaks provide better traction when cornering. Last but not least, carbon-ceramic disc brakes measuring 16.5 inches at the front and 15.4 inches at the rear are clamped by six-piston calipers providing stopping power.
