The new teaser image shows the profile of the new BMW M2 and provides an enlarged tail view to offer a better view of the rear wing on the trunk lid. It rides on a set of bronze colored wheels with an angled double-spoke design.
The M2 sports a swirling camouflage pattern that hides design details. However, the photo does give a good idea of the proportions of the vehicle. The nose is long and curves downwards in front. The side sills stand out, and the rear fender has muscular proportions.
We saw a test of the M2 with two exhaust layouts. The regular arrangement looks like a pair of pipes on each side of the body with a body piece separating them. Another design stands out more visually by having four trapezoidal outlets with two at the top and two slightly wider spacing at the bottom.
Recent spy shots offer a look inside the M2 prototype. There’s a pair of large screens for the digital instrument panel and infotainment display. The center console has a high gearshift and circular dial for controlling the iDrive software.
Under the long hood, there’s reportedly a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six version of the S58. The app is said to have an output of around 450 horsepower (335 kilowatts). So far, we’ve only seen the M2 with an automatic gearbox. It is unclear whether a manual transmission will be available.
We don’t know when BMW intends to unveil the M2. The company confirmed that assembly began “at the end of 2022” at its plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The automaker also builds Series 3 and Series 2 Coupes at this factory. The brand employed 800 employees to start the second production shift there.
BMW is also promising to debut the new M car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed which runs from Thursday, June 23 to Sunday, June 26. Given the teaser, it’s possible that the launch will be the M2.
