Talking Bronco With Sydney Sweeney, And How A Porsche Could Be Next

Sydney Sweeney is on the rise these days, and it’s not just a reference to his 1969 Ford Bronco. The 24-year-old actor plays Cassie Howard in the hit HBO drama euphoria, but he still finds time in his schedule to play the classic off-roader. He recorded the recovery on TikTok for the world to see, and when we saw the finished product up close in New York, we reached out to Sweeney for a chat.

Turns out he really likes classic cars in general, with a slight nod towards Ford. In addition to the old Bronco, he teases a 1965 Ford Mustang on his TikTok channel syds_garage. But Ford’s ties reach a little further with his family.

“The first car I learned how to drive was my great-grandfather’s 1965 Ford truck. So Ford has been in my family for a long time,” he explains. “I’m pretty into classic cars nowadays. I really think there are some pretty hot modern exotic cars out there, but I’d rather buy a vintage car.”

It made us ask questions about future projects, especially Porsche. An article about Sweeney on Vanity Exhibition mentions famous Porsche restorer Rod Emory, who was friends with Sweeney. His Bronco project is taking place in his shop, and he hints that classic Porsches could be his in the future. His response to our direct question on the topic was “maybe.” exhilarating…”

Of course, we will have to wait and see but the ellipsis gives us a lot of hope.

Whatever his next project, he wants to take what he learned from his first restoration and keep fighting. Even if it meant upsetting his mother with a manual-to-automatic swap like he did at the Bronco. After mentioning him in one of his earlier making videos, we asked Sweeney about his mother’s displeasure at the transmission change.

“It’s just one of the most immoral things to do to a car,” Sweeney said. “He rode a cane in Los Angeles so no, he wouldn’t do that!”

It’s rare and refreshing to see a young celebrity involved in the restoration corner of the car scene, rather than just hiring a job. We have great respect for what she does, but also how she reaches out to other women who want to bring back the classics.

I actually just did [the videos] to be able to document it for my parents, so crazy to see what it grew into. I see comments from young girls who want to learn now, or are inspired.”

As for us, we are ready for the next project from Syd’s Garage.
