The 2022 Goodwood Festival Of Speed will celebrate 50 years of the BMW Motorsport division, and the celebration will include the debut of the new M model. There will also be a statue paying homage to vehicles in the brand’s past. This year’s Festival of Speed will run from Thursday, June 23 to Sunday, June 26.
“For our 50th anniversary, we couldn’t imagine a better place to celebrate our products with fans of the brand. I’m really looking forward to launching a certain vehicle to the world public for the first time – a vehicle we have been waiting for a long time,” said BMW M division CEO Frank van Meel.
There are several possible M models that BMW plans to introduce at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Could be the new M2. According to a previous teaser, it started production at the automaker’s San Luis Potosi in Mexico in late 2022.
Reportedly the M2 uses a variant of the S58 3.0-liter inline-six twin-turbocharged engine from the M4. It’s possible it’s available with a six-speed manual. Spy shot shows a test vehicle with a center-exit quad exhaust outlet.
The BMW M3 Touring is another possibility for the debut of the new M model. A recent rumor even suggested that it might debut in June, which is the same month as this year’s Festival of Speed.
The M3 Touring took the existing sedan and added an extended roof so people could carry more gear. The more family-friendly M3 reportedly shares a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six four-door engine that produces 503 hp (375 kW) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque. The drivetrain is allegedly an eight-speed automatic with all-wheel drive. Rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox are not expected.
The long-term option is that the opening could be a custom M car. A rumor from late 2021 suggests BMW is preparing something special for the 50th anniversary of the M division. The vehicle is expected to be available in very limited numbers. There have been no other details about this model since the initial rumors.
