Ellen Surprises Atlanta Teacher With New Ford F-150 Lightning

Remember the famous episode of Oprah way back in the mid-2000s, where were all viewers given a Pontiac G6? Flash forward nearly 20 years, and the G6 is long gone. Heck, Pontiac is long gone, but the Ford F-150 Lightning is back. And a schoolteacher from Atlanta, Georgia just got her own automotive talk show surprise, this time from Ellen Show.

Michael Bonner is the owner of this new 2022 F-150 Lightning after “winning” a round of musical chairs blindfolded during a show. To be honest, the game was just a ploy to give Bonner a proper surprise. Blindfolded and music playing, the fake contestants in the game exit the stage, leaving Bonner dancing as Ellen reveals her tactics to the audience. Bonner had been on the show before with his students and apparently, Ellen remembered. As soon as the music stopped, a very confused Bonner turned around as the door opened to see a new F-150 Lightning waiting for him.

We don’t know the exact details of the truck, but we can see the Lariat embossed on the fill door. At a minimum, that’s a $68,000 truck if it comes with standard batteries. With the remote battery, the price jumped to $78,000 and changed. That also unlocks the full 580 horsepower capability of the dual motors, while giving the truck 320 miles of range.

The surprise gift came just after the official production launch of the F-150 Lightning. It also coincides with teacher awards week, which begins on May 2. Ford was clearly involved in gift giving, with company CEO Jim Farley congratulating Bonner on Twitter.

The 2022 F-150 Lightning starts at just under $40,000 for the work-focused Pro model, excluding destination costs. XLT offers additional features as well as options for remote battery packs. The Lariat further builds on the XLT option, with the range-topper being the F-150 Lightning Platinum. Ford’s flagship electric pickup comes as standard with a long-range battery and a $90,874 price tag.
