2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E Gets Increased Towing Capacity In Europe

Ford has announced that the Mustang Mach-E gets an increase in towing capacity in Europe, among other updates involving charging and driving comfort. Even better, existing Mustang Mach-E owners are part of the update, which is especially important given how well the all-electric crossover is selling on the Old Continent.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E approved brake towing capacity has now been increased to 1,000 kilograms (2,205 pounds) for the long-range models in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. This is a jump from the previous 750 kg (1,653 lbs).

Ford says the increase in towing capacity should be “sufficient to allow customers to tow small or average sized fiberglass fishing boats.”

For the record, the Mustang Mach-E is not officially rated for towing in the US as of this writing.

The increase in towing capacity is just one of the updates Ford has rolled out for the Mustang Mach-E. Charging time has also been reduced from 52 minutes to just 15 minutes – an increase of 37 minutes for a charge between 80-90 percent.

Note that this change in charge curve only applies to DC chargers; those who charge at home with their 11 kW wall box charger will not notice any changes.

Ford says that there is also an increase in driver comfort through recalibration of the single-pedal driving feature for smoother performance at low speeds.

All those upgrades can be via over-the-air updates as no hardware upgrade is required. Even existing Mustang Mach-E owners can benefit from this update.

Ford has been raising money from the Mustang Mach-E in Europe since it started selling the model more than a year ago. By the end of October 2021, the Mondeo midsize sedan had already sold more. In its first year selling the model in Europe, Ford sold more than 23,000 units – about 88 percent of which were customers of other brands.
