Cadillac Escalade Could Be Headed To Chinese Market

[ad_1]

So far, the Cadillac Escalade is not yet available to buyers in the Chinese market, but that could change in the near future.

In March, Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, indicated it was “actively preparing to build a new high-end import business in the country. [China]which will allow the popular models launched at CIIE to enter the Chinese market.”

The China International Import Expo (CIIE) is the venue Cadillac and GM use to gauge interest in a particular model and determine whether selling it locally in China is a viable option.

The Cadillac Escalade has already made an appearance at the event, and of course there is a market for a full-size luxury SUV in China. Local Chinese dealers have imported previous-generation Escalades independently of their franchises, suggesting that there is at least some consumer interest. As such, Cadillac and GM’s new import business could mark the first time the Escalade has been officially sold in China instead of being imported privately at customer request.

In fact, in 2020, Cadillac and GM announced that the fifth-generation 2021 Cadillac Escalade would be sold in China, but that idea was scrapped a short time later as the luxury brand thought that the current lineup available in the Asian country was sufficient. to satisfy consumer interest. Now, it seems Cadillac is reconsidering that decision.

It is important to note that China’s Jinqiao Cadillac factory, which is responsible for the production of all models available in the country, is not currently capable of making body-on-frame vehicles, such as the Escalade. In contrast, the Cadillac Arlington Assembly plant in Texas is the only factory producing the Escalade as of this writing. While importing the Escalade into China is a possibility, vehicles not made in China will be subject to hefty import tariffs and are expensive, priced out of the range of the average buyer. Thankfully, the Escalade isn’t an “average” vehicle, so a $30,000 price increase due to fares may not be a big deal for a wealthy target audience.
