Many car enthusiasts enjoy working on cars. They range from weekend boxers to full mechanics, but safety is paramount regardless of one’s skill level. One important safety measure is to prop the wheels. This prevents the car from rolling while you work on it, and is usually used when the car is on an incline. However, a video shared by YouTube channel ViralHog shows what happens if you don’t.
The video shows a first-generation Chevy Silverado parked in the driveway with the hood open. A foot sticks out from under the pickup truck as someone works from below. Then there was an explosion just before the truck started rolling. The mechanic brings his feet back under the truck as it slides down the driveway, and you can hear him screaming expletives as the truck rolls across the street. The driver’s side tire barely hit him and his leg.
The mechanic, looking unharmed, jumped up and chased after the pickup. He reached it just as the car was sliding out of the frame, and he tried to slow it down by grabbing the radiator shroud, the shoe sliding across the tarmac as the truck dragged him. The Chevy and its mechanics disappear, but the truck slowly backs off just before the video ends with its owner walking next to it. The truck didn’t appear to have hit anything, likely slid into the opposite driveway without a problem.
This video is a friendly reminder to always fill your tires before working on a vehicle, even if not on an incline. Even a slight incline of the driveway is enough to make the car roll over. It’s not clear what exactly caused the truck to roll over, but a loud bang before that indicated that something was giving way. Transmissions and parking brakes can fail, and the last thing anyone wants is for one of them to fail while under a vehicle.
