Ford has shown quite a number of shows at the Specialty Equipment Market Association for as long as we can remember, but effectively there won’t be any shows from the Blue Oval this year. Indeed, tucked away in a press release on the SEMA website is news about the Dearborn automaker skipping the 2022 event altogether. Not only that, Honda also came out. Why? Well, the answer is a bit vague.
Here’s the full announcement:
“Due to a change in corporate strategy, Ford and Honda will not be performing at the 2022 SEMA Show. We appreciate their longstanding support, and while many of us will be missing their participation at this year’s Show, we are excited to see the new-look Show at Central Hall. . SEMA will continue to collaborate with Ford and Honda on various SEMA programs, such as Technology Transfer and Measurement Sessions in 2022 and beyond.”

Between the Maverick and the Bronco, Ford certainly has product momentum that can be leveraged at the SEMA show. Lest we forget the sporty version of the small pickup truck was spotted recently while the V8-powered Bronco R is coming in a few months. It would be great to see a duped derivative of the two at this year’s show.
As for Honda, the announcement made by SEMA only mentioned the main brands, not including Acura. Whether the luxury brand will attend the show remains to be seen, but it would be great to have the Integra 2023 there in more aggressive specs.
The double-draw is a major blow to the North American tuning scene, but there’s still a lot to see in this year’s edition. Automakers such as Chevrolet, GMC, Toyota, Nissan, and Lexus have confirmed their presence and will have bigger stands. Apart from that, Stellantis and Volkswagen are also on the list.
SEMA 2022 will take place November 1-4 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. In the meantime, we’ll be contacting Ford and Honda to find out why they’re not in Sin City.
