Alfa Romeo Giulia Rendering Imagines Future EV, But Not As Sedan

[ad_1]

Earlier in the month, Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato said European Automotive News there will be a second generation of Giulia. However, that will take a while as the sports sedan will first undergo a mid-cycle facelift. That tells us that it will last in its current form until at least 2025 or 2026. When its successor will eventually hit the market, it will not have a combustion engine. Indeed, Giulia will only use EVs.

Here’s another kicker – maybe not a sedan anymore. As demand for saloons has dropped significantly in recent decades, Alfa Romeo is rethinking the formula. Our friends in motor.es have good authority the revamped Giulia will take the form of a swoopy crossover. The Spanish publication claims it will adopt a slim profile in the same vein as the Ferrari Purosangue. Their speculative rendering tries to see the future of the electric Giulia Alfa.

Citroën has taken a somewhat similar approach to the C5 since the latest model, dubbed the C5 X, is no longer a sedan. It’s more along the lines of an equestrian wagon with a coupe-like roofline. Don’t be too surprised if a revamped Opel Insignia will follow as that one is also said to wave goodbye to sedan recipes.

The next-generation Giulia will be one of the many EVs from the well-known Italian brand. Alfa Romeo previously said it would only go electric by 2027 despite not having a single zero-emissions model in its current portfolio. His first coy attempt towards electrification was the Tonale, a compact crossover available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The company’s first EV is slated to arrive in 2023 and will likely be paired with the small Jeep crossover that was previewed in early March. Both are expected to be built in Poland where they can share an assembly line with the Fiat equivalent. Also since 2023 is an update for the Giulia and Stelvio, which has been revealed by spy shots will get redesigned headlights.
