From 1977 to 1981, the Free Wheeling Package provided a variety of colorful Ford truck, SUV and van body lines that brightened the exterior. TestDrivenTV took their long-term Maverick 2022 test truck and gave it special lines that took inspiration from the old-school look.
This Maverick has a light blue body which is the perfect canvas for retro colored stripes as it’s the shadow you can imagine on a truck from the 1970s. It rides on white painted steel wheels that match the aesthetic.

The stripes are made of vinyl and have color gradients that range from burnt orange to cream, brown, and white. Apart from being on the side of the truck, they are also on the hood. Smaller touches include a white stripe on the grille and white Maverick lettering on the tailgate.
The builder says the stripes have a cost of about $300. He plans the designs in photoshop and creates paper patterns for each element. The installation took several weekends of work. The goal was to create a look similar to that offered by Ford from the factory.
Once the current tires need to be replaced, the manufacturer plans to install a new set of wheels. Judging by the video, he plans to mount the piece with a more modern aesthetic.
Ford is currently preparing to expand the Maverick lineup with more models. For example, recent spy shots show that a sporty ST model is in development. The truck appears to have modifications such as dual exhaust outlets, wider fenders, a lower ride height, and adjustments for better powertrain cooling.
Ford filed a trademark on “Maverick Tremor” in Chile. Although, as of this writing, there have been no such filings in the United States. Ford used this moniker on a somewhat rugged version of the F-Series truck.
Ford also owns the trademark in “Rattler.” There is speculation that the company could use this name on a model with the equivalent of the Raptor in the F-150 and Ranger lineup.
