Lexus TX, Toyota Grand Highlander Arriving To US In 2023: Report

Lexus dealers have been coveting a three-row crossover that’s bigger than the RX L but smaller than the body-on-frame GX and LX SUVs. And as it turns out, their wish will come true next year as Lexus – and apparently Toyota – will introduce a three-line crossover for their respective lineups: the Lexus TX and Toyota Grand Highlander.

The information came from Automotive News, citing an unnamed source privy to the matter. Not surprisingly, Toyota declined to comment on this future product to the publication.

According to sources, the Lexus TX will be based on the Toyota Grand Highlander. The latter will be a longer version of the Toyota Highlander (also known as the Kluger in some parts of the world) to accommodate the spacious third row. Both are expected to arrive in the same year, with the Grand Highlander arriving six months early in mid-2023. Both will also be assembled at Toyota’s facility in Indiana.

It’s unclear whether the Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX will be based on a revamped foundation, or just an expanded version of the current Highlander platform. The current generation Highlander was introduced in 2019, so the timeline is quite complicated.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of either nameplate. Toyota has applied for trademarks for both in the past two years, with the Lexus TX etching up three flavours: the TX350 and TX500h, and the PHEV TX550h+. Meanwhile, Toyota is applying for a trademark for the Grand Highlander name in 2021.

Note that the trademark filing, as well as this report, is not confirmation of the arrival of either model or its trim levels. The car manufacturer has not officially announced the two names. But given the timeline mentioned by the source, we could officially hear about them by the end of the year.
