The new generation Honda Civic Type R debuts later this year, but the existing version is still a solid hot hatch. This video provides a great opportunity to hear the Limited Edition’s turbocharged engine from the cabin and from the outside. Plus, the driver runs up to 250 kilometers per hour (155 miles per hour).
Most of this video focuses on the various angles that accentuate the sound of a turbocharged engine. The driver even took him through several tunnels to let the angry exhaust sound echo off the concrete walls.

In its fastest, the speedometer shows the Type R Limited Edition reaching 261 kph (162 mph). In fact, GPS puts the speed at 250 kph.
Compared to the regular Civic Type R, the Limited Edition gets BBS forged aluminum wheels that reduce rotational mass by 18 pounds (8.1 kilograms). Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 sticky tires wrap around it.
There’s also less silencer and no rear heating duct to save 28 pounds (12.7 kilograms). Plus, European versions (like this one) lack the infotainment system and air conditioning for added weight reduction.
Mechanically, the Limited Edition shares the same engine as the standard Type R. This model received adjustments to the damper settings and recalibrated steering.
While Honda hasn’t debuted the new Civic Type R yet, the company has already started building hype for it. The upcoming hot hatch has broken lap records for front-wheel drive models around the Suzuka circuit. The car clocked in at 2 minutes and 23.120 seconds, which is slightly faster than the Limited Edition’s time of 2 minutes and 23.993 seconds.
The powertrain for the new Civic Type R remains a mystery. Rumors are that it uses a revised version of the current turbocharged 2.0-liter that produces more power. A six-speed manual transmission is reported to be the only gearbox option. Like the current model, the five-door hatchback will likely be the only body model available.
