Aston Martin Valkyrie, Valhalla, And Vanquish Have Their Roots In Gran Turismo

Aston Martin’s exciting lineup of mid-engine sports cars can be traced back to the Gran Turismo game from 2014. In an interview with CarsGuide, Aston Martin’s Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman explained the impact the game had on Aston Martin. What started as a fun design exercise to celebrate Aston Martin’s 15 years of participation in the gaming franchise morphed into a line of legitimate high-performance mid-engine cars.

In 2013 Gran Turismo introduced the Vision Gran Turismo feature which allowed car manufacturers to release digital concept cars in the game for players to enjoy. Aston Martin joined the program in 2014 with the release of the mid-engine DP-100. This mid-engined Aston Martin features the company’s iconic front grille and a center-mounted V12 engine that produces 800 horsepower (597 Kilowatts).

Submitting a car for display at the Gran Turismo requires more information just a sketch of the exterior. For game designers to get cars into the game, they need detailed engineering information including CAD files, engine dyno information, along with any numerical metrics that might be used to describe the car. This meant that Aston Martin had to devote legitimate engineering resources to the design and execution of the DP-100 for the Gran Turismo game.

After the release of the DP-100 for the Gran Turismo, questions started pouring in to Aston Martin with enthusiastic customers looking to buy a mid-engine Aston Martin DP100. This customer interest prompted Marek Reichman to create the model shown by Aston Martin at the 2014 Pebble Beach meeting.

From there, customer interest led to the creation of the Aston Martin Valkyrie, which debuted as a concept in 2016. This was followed by the track-only Aston Martin Valhalla in 2019 and finally, the reinvention of the grand tourer Aston Martin Vanquish as a race car. a mid-engined V6 Ferrari fighter. All of these concepts soon to reach full-scale production have the Aston Martin DP-100 for Gran Turismo, which helps bring these projects to life.
