Richard Hammond of The Grand Tour and Drive Tribe recently took a look at some of the influencer cars to see what’s going on with some of the most popular automotive influencers on the internet. What Hammond found was a mix of heavily modified exotics and questionable engine swaps. So let’s see what Hammond thinks about the state of influencer cars.
First, we have YouTuber TJ Hunt with his gorgeous Mustang GT350 class. Hammond liked the Mustang, but he found a big problem with TJ Hunt’s car. Instead of the classic Mustang V8, TJ opted to swap the RB26 2.6 liter straight-6 engine from the Nissan GT-R. As a Mustang Purist, Hammond is admittedly offended, which is most likely the exact reaction TJ Hunt expects when it comes to his Mustang builds.
Next we have Shmee150, an exotic car collector and passionate YouTuber. Shmee recently purchased a new STO Lamborghini Huracan which is wholly stock from the Lamborghini factory. Hammond admits he loves the Lamborghini Huracan STO, but it’s Shmee’s use of Lamborghini’s extensive list of options that ruffles Hammond’s fur. The Lamborghini Huracan STO Shmee is a unique purple with a mustard accent color which is an acquired taste and certainly not to Richard’s interest.
Even Ben Collins, Stig from Top Gear, isn’t safe from Richard’s constructive criticism. Ben Collins owns a very modest Porsche 911 Turbo 997.2. Hammond and Collins are close friends so Hammond has some interesting details that lie behind a quality photo of Collins proudly standing next to his Porsche. Collins took his black 911 Turbo to the car wash which had damaged the paint on every body panel of his car.
To top it off, we have the Drive Tribe project car, the BMW M5 Touring E61. This insane BMW buggy packs the same 5.0-liter V10 engine as the regular BMW M5 E60, but with the added practicality of a wagon. It’s an almost impossible formula to beat and a car that Hammond clearly loves.
Which YouTuber’s car is your favourite, and do you agree with Hammond’s comments?
